Last evening, Mid Valley Mentors’ staff Suzanne Jorgensen and Alex El’Dabaa appeared on KBOO’s Prison Pipeline radio show hosted by Ruth Kovacs to talk about Mid Valley Mentors’ Reentry Solutions Program.
Suzanne shared information about Mid Valley Mentors’ programs and services for children and adults affected by incarceration and shared some interesting statistics including the fact that Marion County has the highest concentration of inmates of any Oregon county. With 4 of the 14 state wide prison facilities located in the city of Salem, not only do we host 30% of the state’s inmate population, but thousands of families, friends and children with an incarcerated loved one come to live in our community.
Alex shared his compelling personal story of overcoming the cycle of crime, being a mentor with Mid Valley Mentors and now supporting mentors and clients of Mid Valley Mentors’ adult mentoring program for individuals transitioning out of incarceration to live in Marion County. He also shared 3 success stories of mentor/client matches currently in his program talking about the types of activities they do together and a little about their backgrounds.
